Cottage Grove Kids

Our mission is to raise up the next generation of believers to know, love, and follow Jesus. We aim to do this by teaching simple truths so kids know the foundation of who God is, who they are, and who we (the church) are, and are inspired to respond with a simple faith.

The Four Principles of Cottage Grove Kids

1

Provide a safe and secure environment for children to learn and grow

2

Teach children the gospel using age-appropriate, gospel-centered curriculum

3

Empower parents to disciple their children at home during the week

4

Be hospitable to our children and parents

Safety is Our Top Priority

It is an honor to be entrusted with caring for your children. You can be confident that your child is well-cared for and will have a great experience as they are ministered to by committed, trustworthy volunteers - all of whom have completed a comprehensive background check and training. Our check-in system includes student and parent identification and security tags as well as classroom policies to ensure all medical notes and parental preferences are followed.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to register my child in advance to participate?

You do not need to register your child in advance! We do encourage you to download the Church Center App, which will allow you to prepare a check-in for your children before you arrive. When you arrive, all you will need to do is scan the QR code on your phone, grab your tags and take your kids to their rooms! You also can check in at the Kids desk when you arrive.

How are classrooms divided?

Rooms are based on age and grade so kids can learn age-appropriate truths and build relationships with their peers. Individual rooms have a maximum capacity to maintain safe volunteer-to-student ratios and promote positive environments for growth and fun.

What curriculum do you use?

Each week, our volunteers lead their kids through an age-appropriate lesson from the Gospel Project plan or a lesson created by our Cottage Grove Kids staff to learn simple truths and be inspired to have simple faith.

We often use worship videos and lessons as well as activities and crafts to supplement the lessons.

What safety policies and procedures do you have in place? Do you perform background checks?

All of our volunteers undergo annual training and pass an annual background check before working with children.

Each child receives a unique security code when they check in that is recorded in our online check-in system and when they arrive at their classroom. Parents receive a matching code that is required to pick their children up from their classroom.

We ask families to inform us of any allergies that their children have. We only serve Veggiestraws for snacks.

Do I have to be a member of Cottage Grove Church to serve in Cottage Grove Kids?

No, you do not have to be a Cottage Grove member to serve in Cottage Grove Kids.

I’m new. How do I check in my kids on Sunday morning?

If entering Cottage Grove from the north parking lot, head through the front door and enter the Kids wing check-in room immediately on your right. If entering from the doors on Cottage Grove Avenue, head straight through the building past the restrooms, and the Kids wing check-in room will be on your left.

We have a Kids coach who will be stationed at the Kids wing desk underneath a sign that reads “Guest Check-in.” They will be happy to welcome you and your kids while walking you through the process of checking your children into one of our classrooms.

The Kids coach will ask for your name and your children’s names, your contact information, your children’s ages or grades, and any allergies or behavior information we should know. We will securely store this information in case we need to contact you during the service.

Once your children are checked in, they will receive a name tag with their classroom and a security code printed. You will also receive a tag with a matching security code that will be required to be shown in order to pick up your children after service.

Finally, one of our volunteers will walk with you and your children to their classrooms to meet their teachers for the morning!

What happens if my child is upset or needs me?

If your child is upset or is struggling in their classroom, one of our Kids volunteers will contact the Kids coach who will send you a message to come to the Kids wing and attend to your child.
