Reach the City of Des Moines by being a light in dark places through Overflow, TeamMates, and International Friendship Connection.
“You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others so that[b] they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven."
Matthew 5: 14- 16
Are you tired of Churches talking about loving everyone but always staying within their comfort zone? Are you tired of seeing others hurting and wishing that they knew Jesus
Overflow is your opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus that all Christians should aspire to be. The broken, the hurting, the poor, the lonely, and the addicted will come with needs, and you can play a role in meeting those needs. Jesus did not call you to a life of comfort with those who are like you. Instead, he called you to be set apart by being willing to sit down and break bread with the outcasts of society.
Too often, communities try to engage the youth when it’s too late, and they are already at risk. Des Moines needs people willing to engage with children before they think about gangs, guns, and turning away from education.
Teammates provides the opportunity to mentor children from 3rd grade so that by the time their peers are influencing them in middle school, they already have an adult with whom they have an excellent relationship.
International Friendship Connection - Des Moines (IFC-DSM) exists to create a home away from home for international college students in Des Moines through relationships that help people experience meaning, hope, and love in their life.
Many of us have traveled to or lived in another country for an extended period of time. During these times we had people who welcomed us in to their home and showed us hospitality.
We know how challenging it can be to meet people and get connected in a foreign country. Through IFC we hope to show hospitality to people in our home country like we experienced in other peoples’ countries.
